Sainsbury's 2013 School Games - Volunteering Opportunities

The Sainsbury's 2013 School Games is taking place in Sheffield between Thursday 12th and Sunday 15th September 2013 and we are looking for over 400 volunteers to support the delivery of the event. There are a number of volunteering opportunities available, with roles ranging from coordinating volunteers, driving, media and many more!

The location of the event will be held across a number of Sheffield venues. Volunteers will be required to support each day of the event. Shift times for each day will be confirmed in June 2013.

12 National Governing Bodies of Sport are involved in the event, these are: Athletics, Badminton, Cycling, Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Rugby Sevens, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Wheelchair Basketball.

We project that circa 1600 athletes will participate in this event across the 12 sports. This is a unique opportunity to support the delivery of an event this size.

The Youth Sport Trust has overall responsibility for the management of the event and Sheffield City Council as the host city are responsible for the training, deployment and management of the individual volunteers.

Through this event we aim to reward and recognise a diverse workforce of skilled, trained and enthusiastic young and adult volunteers and inspire them to continue their volunteering journey beyond this event.

We are looking for friendly, outgoing and competent volunteers to fulfil a variety of roles. Volunteers will be acting as representatives for the event therefore the right attitude is essential. No specific experience is required and briefings and training will take place prior to the event to ensure that you are fully prepared for your role and responsibilities.

Please note that:

There will be no car parking arrangements for volunteers
Food and refreshments will be provided to all volunteers working at the event during their shift
Volunteers will be provided with a uniform and a hooded sweatshirt to wear during the event when deployed in volunteering roles, but will be required to provide their own full length tracksuit bottoms (no jeans) and trainers
No volunteer expenses will be available for the Sainsbury's 2013 School Games

Teachers wanting to support the Talent Inspiration Programme

As a high profile multi-sport event for the most talented young athletes from across the country, the Sainsbury's 2013 School Games Finals (12-15 September, Sheffield) requires acts for its Opening and Closing Ceremonies and for a range of sporting venues.

The blue artificial turf with its brilliant pink surround, nicknamed the 'smurf turf', was one of the stand-out images of the London 2012 Olympic Park in Stratford and it will now move from the Riverbank Arena to its new home in Sheffield for the Sainsbury's 2013 School Games.
